Sage Changes and Happy Memorial Weekend

25 May

Happy Friday everyone!

You should have received an email from Sage last week regarding product name changes and the launch of their new website: NA.Sage.com

I checked out the website and it’s pretty cool, very easy to navigate and locate resources/information.

As you may have read, MAS 90 and MAS 200 are no more…the names that is. Sage has decided to identify products with a numbering approach where higher numbers denote increased level of product capability. Sage 100 replaces the formerly used MAS 90 and MAS 200.  The name change is more than just a name change as the product families will offer new integrations like CRM, Fixed Assets,  HRMS and Payroll. Sage is making a lot of changes and we at SGS are progressing and adapting. If you have a question about the new Sage changes, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

We will be closed on Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day.  Have a safe holiday weekend!

How Pixar Almost Lost Toy Story 2 to a Bad Backup

17 May

Great little video about one of my favorite movies. Hat Tip to @RobertWood from LinkedIn for sharing this.

The moral of this story is… TEST YOUR BACKUP AND RESTORE PROCESS! REGULARLY!

Yes, I am shouting. That is all.

Paperless Office — If you aren’t using it, you should

19 Apr

One of my best clients is dealing with a situation this week: Their payroll clerk decided to leave. No notice, no prior warning. She left. But, this post is not about ethics and whether that was right or wrong. It just is, and there isn’t anything we can do about it.

Now, the time is drawing near for this client to file their quarterly tax returns. And guess what? They didn’t follow the time-honored tradition of backing up their Sage 100 ERP (formerly MAS90/200) company prior to closing their payroll. Major no-no. Especially if you don’t print out your 941s before you close the period.

Well, the bookkeeping CPA is in the office today, trying to file the 941s, and there are no longer available, and he can’t find any printouts from the quarter end. Fortunately for him, paperless office was turned on, and we were able to reprint a bunch of the necessary tax reports from the payroll system, and now he can prepare a 941. Backups are best, but in case your backup doesn’t work, make sure you are using paperless office.

Happy Friday!

We mentioned a couple custom scripts at the Users Meeting and a few of you displayed some exuberant enthusiasm. I’ve never seen Aaron so popular! We added details on our website on GL Reversal and Signature Capture. Click here to check it out.

We’ve done other customizations, but these two are very popular. If there is something in particular you are looking for, contact us and we’ll check into it for you.

Thanks and have a great Easter weekend.

Users’ Meetings Today and Thursday

27 Mar

Sorry for the late announcement, but most readers are aware that there will be MAS90/200 Users’ Meetings today in Salt Lake City and on Thursday in Boise. We’ll be talking about SGS Care, The new Sage Portal, and (if time permits), I’ll be showing off a couple of scripting customizations that we’ve built. As always, we’ll provide refreshments and dry humor.

We hope to see you there. If you need directions or anything else, please let us know.

Uppercase only for MAS90/200

21 Feb

We recently had an inquiry from another consultant about ensuring that all the data that gets entered into MAS90 or MAS200 (or Sage ERP 100 as it will soon be known) is done in uppercase. There were a couple of hacks suggested, but rather than hacking it through the registry (which forces uppercase for all programs), I created a little program that you can run that will effectively convert all lowercase (or “miniscule” for the scrabble geeks) into uppercase (or…. get ready for it… “majuscule”) for only MAS90 or MAS200.

Here’s a link to the program that converts lowercase to uppercase. Remember, this only works in MAS90/200. If you need similar functionality in a different program, please let me know. It’s usually a simple thing to do, and I can put it together in less than 15 minutes.

If you need any help applying this patch to your system, please feel free to contact us.
